We have already discussed the use of amber for its soothing and pain-relieving properties, through the slow release of succinic acid, benefiting those who wear it (see «Amber and Ancient Remedies for Mother and Newborn»). Children, even here in old Europe, are among the most frequent wearers of amber necklaces, thanks to the knowledge of their mothers, an ancient wisdom now backed by science, which has traveled through the centuries to reach us intact. In the East, pacifiers and small rattles are made from this precious material, but this millennia-old fossil resin, with its surprising qualities, can in fact do much more.
Beyond its purely ornamental or votive uses which, thanks to its beauty, have made it an ideal raw material for objects and jewelry, amber has everywhere and always also taken on the quiet role of «energetic sponge», since it is able to absorb heavy frequencies (loosely referred to in everyday language as negative energies), whether environmental or interpersonal in origin. In fulfilling this role, amber effectively absorbs and eliminates disharmonious frequencies by taking them on itself, to the benefit of whoever wears it or of anyone living in the environment it works to clear.
Small amber objects, placed for example in an entryway or in an office with heavy foot traffic, where each person carries their own emotional and energetic load, sometimes dense with bad moods and worries, absorb and «clear» the surrounding energy for everyone's benefit, but above all for whoever places the amber nearby for protective purposes. In a home where children live, or anxious parents, amber helps cleanse the overall atmosphere.
For this reason, since it absorbs heavy energies like a sponge whenever it is «at work», you may see it transform before your eyes within days or weeks. In cases where the person or the environment involved is genuinely heavily laden with tension and hostile energy, the fruit of stress and bad moods of some intensity, the amber will begin to grow cloudy or to crack, eventually splitting altogether once it has reached the «maximum» of its absorption capacity: this also depends on its resistance and size, as well as on the quality of the resin, which can be more or less «old», and therefore more or less resilient.
Even skeptics can easily run a test, without spending a fortune, by buying a piece of raw amber the size of a two-euro coin and carrying it in a pocket for a while, or placing it in a «hot» spot such as a meeting room, the bedside table of a hospitalized patient, a teacher's desk, or an office desk in contact with the public. Without ever being scratched or dropped, it will be seen to change, to shift color, to dry out or crack. In the more severe cases, a sign of a great deal of absorbing and clearing work carried out by the resin, amber can split into two or more pieces without ever having been knocked in any way! This is astonishing, because the average Westerner is used to considering the inanimate world as inert and does not think in terms of frequencies. Yet everything is energy, and matter is no exception, all the more so organic matter like amber, which is several million years old.
For this purpose, it is generally advisable to buy raw «working» pieces of amber at a fairly low cost, since precious jewelry and ornaments would inevitably end up ruined and worn away. Once it has done its work, amber can be returned to the earth without much concern (buried in the garden, left in a river) with gratitude, so that its life cycle may continue.
